También ofrecemos una tienda virtual con productos compatibles con la crianza en brazos, la lactancia materna y la crianza con respeto.

Today Show Where in the World is Matt Lauer - in Buenos Aires, Argentina !

Buenos Aires, Argentina continues to be one of the top ranked tourist destinations where the dollar still buys a lot. Today Show host Matt Lauer as part of his "Where in the World is Matt Lauer", visited Buenos Aires, Argentina and did a series of segments about the city and mentions other areas of the country as well.

While it might not be the absolute bargain it was just a couple of years ago, particularly with the rising cost of flights, it is still much more friendly to the dollar than Europe. Here is the link to the MSNBC webpage .

Important Change in Argentina - Daylight Saving now being implemented

An important new change has taken effect in Argentina...DAYLIGHT SAVINGS.

Daylight savings went into effect on December 30, 2007. Remember that the southern hemisphere seasons are reversed so the old spring ahead fall back works EXCEPT THE OPPOSITE. Argentine clocks will be turned ahead one hour because it's spring in the southern hemisphere. To make it more confusing, at least for North Americans, the time will return to normal on  March 16, almost one week after the U.S.

Sending Christmas packages to / from Argentina

Sending or receiving packages from Argentina can be a pain at times. One of the best ways to receive a package complete with everything the sender intended for you to receive is to have it sent by FedEx or DHL. We've had instances where packages were not complete or just not received when sent by regular Correo. However, anytime something was sent by FedEx or DHL it got to us just fine. Plus realize if you're mailing a package to Argentina, particularly Buenos Aires, that the person will need to downtown and pick it up in person even if they live outside of the city and it can be a long undertaking to do it and there is a time window they must pick up the package within to avoid having it returned to sender.

For shipping outside of the country, this is useful information from a post from someone in the Buenos Aires Yahoo group who was mailing a package outside of the country through Argentine Correo.

"I just came back from the post office after trying to mail a package
to the US. I used a shoe box and then wrapped a paper bag (inside
out) around it. It turns out that you cannot have tape on the outside
of your pack, ages, you can only use glue!!! I was very surprised. I
would think glue is not very secure. The package also needs to be
less than 2kg. (And mine was unfortunately 2.180kg.) The post office
sent me to a papeleria to get another box and they then told me to
come back after 2pm. The post office does have their own boxes, but
they only had very large boxes. Just thought I'd pass this message
along to anyone else trying to send Christmas packets back home
through the Argentine post.
PS. My wait was only 35 minutes at the post office, but I'd still
recommend bringing a good book because it can be much longer."

Psst Want to know how to move to Argentina? All about life in Argentina? excerpt of Chapter 6 from my ebook

I've been asked several times to post an excerpt from my ebook so here it is:
From Chapter 6: Real Estate and Rentals...

Garantias - Remember how the owner can take years to get someone to pay back rent, or get them out of their property? Well the guarantia is what makes them feel secure.

A guarantia is essentially a type of lien whereby someone’s property is put up as collateral should the tenant default on the lease or destroy the property. Although never 100% guaranteed to work, it gives the landlord more legal power to try and recoup their losses. It can be difficult to find someone to give a guarantia because they may be uncomfortable risking their property or they may already have given one to another person. Even if you are successful in getting a guarantia, there is no guarantee that the owner will accept it.

Employers can also provide a guarantia. For instance, many of the foreign companies or embassies who send their workers to

Argentina

will provide a guarantia for the property rental. If you don’t have a guarantia, don’t worry, there are other options that are available, such as paying the rent up front or pago adelantado, which is essentially what is happening in the tourist rental market. And you needn’t feel like you’re alone in securing a guarantia because many Argentines also have trouble securing guarantias.

If you choose to use the pago adelantado you need to be aware of one thing, unless you work it out with the owner or agency, you will be paying your entire rent up front and should you have any problems or need to break the contract, you will have little recourse. One way to avoid this is to try to do a contract broken into segments – for instance a two year lease that has four separate contracts, all prepared at the same time, but as each contract ends and the next begins, you pay the next rental period. This protects you in the case that you absolutely need to leave or begin to hate the place…or the owner.
